The Rosemarie Boyden Memorial Scholarship is being offered annually by D.M.N.E. Chapter 5, with the first presented in March of 2010. As we all know, Rosemarie was a strong advocate of dance education, and her work with children over the years was remarkable. Coupled with her dedication to membership in the DMA organization, it seems fitting to bring all of these factors together in the development of a prominent scholarship award.
The scholarship, worth $900.00 will be awarded to an eligible student who meets all the criteria. In the style of Rosemarie’s dedication to the art of dance, a student will be chosen who exhibits commitment, perseverance and enthusiasm in working towards improving their dance abilities. The recipient will receive a full week of dance training, including room and board at DMA’s S.H.I.P. Program in Buffalo, NY.
Member teachers who feel that they would like to nominate a student for this scholarship are asked to submit a letter of recommendation to the Board of Directors. In addition, the students who wish to apply for this scholarship will be asked to write a complete essay, “I Wish to Attend the S.H.I.P. Program Because . . . “.
The applicants will be required to participate in our October Convention to be viewed in classes. A special badge will be worn by all who are vying for this scholarship. Attendance in the November scholarship audition classes will demonstrate the student’s efforts in each discipline. A high score is not necessarily the criteria; the student’s efforts are most important.
